Google can force Yahoo to spend more and more on capex by bidding up data center prices. After some point, Yahoo can't keep up.

See more on this here
http://baris.typepad.com/venture_capitalist/2006/05/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14531678.post-1148199436511133472006-05-21T04:17:00.000-04:002006-05-21T04:17:00.000-04:00What is Google really upto by accumulating all thi...What is Google really upto by accumulating all this processing power and BW?

Regards,
NagB /at/
Startups.inAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14531678.post-1147900039115124942006-05-17T17:07:00.000-04:002006-05-17T17:07:00.000-04:00Okay one more try on the link to the PA Semi Arti...Okay one more try on the link to the PA Semi ArticleAndrew Fifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10772469322384124366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14531678.post-1147899881652313692006-05-17T17:04:00.000-04:002006-05-17T17:04:00.000-04:00Well PA Semi may come to the rescue and solve the ...Well PA Semi may come to the rescue and solve the problem with their dual core chip that only uses 7 watts. Here is a recent announcement:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/05/17/pasemi_core_ti/Andrew Fifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10772469322384124366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14531678.post-1147826640168033592006-05-16T20:44:00.000-04:002006-05-16T20:44:00.000-04:00yeah, the power requirements of Intel's dual core ...yeah, the power requirements of Intel's dual core chips is kind of an eye opener. A 110/15 circut will only power 4 dual core P4/Xeon servers. A 120/20 might get you to 5. I was recently quoted $275 per month for a 120/20 circut (in California), which divided by 5 equals $55 per server per month. Given that leasing this type of server from Dell is only aproximately $75 per month power clearlyAndrew Fifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10772469322384124366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14531678.post-1147784853395563312006-05-16T09:07:00.000-04:002006-05-16T09:07:00.000-04:00Jeremy, it's also a function of power becoming the...Jeremy, it's also a function of power becoming the scarcest resource in the chain. Bandwidth, processing power, storage etc. all continue to get cheaper but all consume more power while doing so. That's why you are starting to see 'green' servers marketed as consuming less power from the likes of Sun etc.

Interesting that the technical problems at the server end (power) resemble much theAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
